THE POWER OF SPEECH
When we talk about giving a speech, the first thing we imagine is someone talking. The fact is; public speaking is more than just the act of speaking in front of an audience. It goes way beyond that.
“Speech is power: speech is to persuade, to convert, to compel. It is to bring another out of his bad sense into your good sense.”
-Ralph Waldo Emerson-
There
are many reasons why giving a speech is important. Do not underestimate the power of speech because a great speech
can change the world. Believe it or not, a speech can make a difference. So,
what makes a speech so powerful?
1)We can present ideas by giving a speech
Ideas
are meant to be heard. Ideas lead to creativity and innovations. The right
ideas will solve many problems and can bring good to the human kind. Thus, it
provides a better world for us to live in.
One
way to present your ideas is by delivering a speech. The act of speaking and
using words are needed to present these ideas. A creative speech can help
innovators and brilliant minds to introduce their ideas to the world. An
effective speech can convince people to accept the ideas and implement those
ideas into reality.
2)We can raise awareness and educate by giving a speech
As
humans, we often get caught up with our daily life that sometimes we need to be
reminded. A powerful speech can raise awareness and educate people of certain
important issues.
For
example; an environmentalist can promote awareness and educate the public of
how important it is to look after the earth with a convincing speech. A speech
has the power to make people realize what they have been neglecting and start
to care more about the nature.
3)We can share knowledge and information by giving a speech
A
speech is like an open book that is being read out loud. There are so many
knowledge worth sharing. There are so much information worth knowing. So, what
better way to spread these positive insights than talking about it?
For
instance, an informative speech helps educators to deliver knowledge to their
students. Speech is so powerful because it helps to unleash the most powerful ‘weapon’ in the world…KNOWLEDGE.
4)We can express our opinions and views by giving a speech
A
speech gives you freedom to speak. The power of speech is undeniable because
giving a speech is using your rights to voice things out. By giving a speech,
we can express our opinions and views. We can stand up and fight for what we
believe in. We can present our arguments in doing what we think is right.
We
have witnessed many times how a powerful speech can help a politician
win the election. We have also witnessed how leaders convinced their people
with a speech and received great support.
5) We can boost our business by giving a speech
In
business, gaining trust and decision making are crucial. Business
presentations has come a long way. But when we are talking about a speech, it
is still a powerful tool for businesses. An effective speech can boost the
business in a way you never think possible.
Can
you imagine a CEO of a company giving a great speech in front of all the
business leaders? A powerful speech by a CEO will not only portray a true leadership
but also create a positive image for the company. It can be a great influence
in any decision making.
6)We can motivate/inspire people by giving a speech
I am
sure you have heard of motivational speech before. One of the powers that a
speech possess is the power to motivate and inspire. We all need a little
encouragement once and a while. Listening to an inspiring speech can lift our
spirit and change the way we see life.
It
is proven that an inspiring speech helps motivators to change people’s mindset.
A motivational speech helps human resource managers to motivate their staffs. A
speech that touches the hearts is so powerful that it can persuade, influence
and make people see things from a different perspectives.
A
speech can be a powerful tool… but there is one thing I keep telling myself;
“The power of speech can only work if it is delivered with passion, strong beliefs and with the right intention. Without these, the speech is powerless”
