5 USEFUL TIPS TO MOTIVATE YOUR AUDIENCE
I dream a lot.
Some of my dreams do not even make any sense. Some of my dreams may not necessary come true. But it makes me happy, positive and looking forward to life. I only need a little push, a little motivation. Does this happen to you too?
What exactly is motivation?
Imagine
this….
One
sunny day, you decide to ride a bicycle to the park. You take the bicycle out
from your garage and sit on it. You are ready to ride a bicycle. Then you push
the pedals and off you go! You pass a supermarket, a few traffic lights, and an
ice cream shop and finally you arrive at the park.
What
will happen if you do not push the pedals? Then you will not be riding the
bicycle and reach your park, right? You see, the park is your destination. The supermarket, the traffic
lights and the ice cream shop representing what you go through before you reach
your destination. And the act of pedalling the bicycle is your motivation.
Motivation
is what drives you, what urge you and push you to do what your heart desire. So
in other words, you need to push the pedals :)
Why does anyone need to be motivated?
We
all have expectation, wishes and dreams. By knowing that it is possible to
achieve whatever you want in life and believing that you are worth it keeps you
alive and feeling optimistic for the future. So yes, being motivated is a good
thing.
Sometimes,
we don’t realise how worthy we are until someone tells us we can do the
impossible and show us how to find our fullest potential. We all need a bit of
encouragement and support now and then. Life can also be hard sometimes.
Motivation lifts up our spirits and reminds us there is still hope.
What motivates people?
Well,
it depends. Some are motivated by money and wealth. Some are inspired to get a
better life for the family. Some do things with the intention to help others.
Some are motivated by power and the desire to be famous. And some wants to be acknowledged
and recognise for being good at something.
What can motivation do to a person?
Motivation
can make a difference in person’s life. Motivation changes mindset and the way
we see life. Motivation encourage you to take a chance and reaching for the
stars. Motivation makes you believe in yourself and take necessary steps to
improve your skills in achieving your goals.
So, how to motivate people? Or even yourself?
There
are actually many ways to motivate others or yourself. Motivation can be given
by actions and words. That is where motivational speech comes in. Motivational
speech is my favourite type of speech. I prefer to call it, “the feel good
speech”. Why do I call it that? You guessed it. Yes, because motivational
speech always makes me feel good.
I
love listening to a motivational speech and I enjoy delivering a motivational
speech. It feels wonderful to give a motivational speech as it helps me to
inspire others. And I like listening to a motivational speech because I need to
be inspired as well.
The question is; how to motivate your audience effectively? Well, here are my 5 useful tips to motivate your audience.
TIP 1# GET TO KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE
One
important thing you need to remember is that everyone is different. We all have
different needs, different way of thinking and different ways of learning. If
you want to motivate your audience, you must first get to know them. Do some
research on their background; education, age, culture. Find out what type of
audience you have and what they want to hear from you. What motivates them?
Another
thing to remember, you must be more flexible in your approach. You can’t use
the same method of motivation for everyone. Age factor for instance; the way you
motivate a group of teenagers is different than the way you motivate a group of
old men. Be observant, have an open mind, listen, understand and connect.
TIP 2 # SAY IT LIKE YOU MEAN IT
When
you motivate others, you are trying to convince them to take actions.
Therefore, as a speaker, you must first believe in your own words and ideas.
Make sure you mean it. Say it with enthusiasm. Tell them from the heart with
feelings. Be passionate and be sincere.
Let
say, you are giving a motivational speech about life goals to a group of
students. You want to inspire them to be high achievers. You wish to motivate
them to go for their life goals. You tell them to believe that they can do it.
As a speaker, you must also believe that they can do it too. In order to reach
out to your audience, you have to be honest and tell the truth. It is the only
way you will able to touch their hearts.
TIP 3 # Prove It
If
you want to motivate your audience, you have to provide some evidence to what
you are saying. How can your audience be motivated and inspired if they are not
convinced by your words? Back to the example I mentioned before. If you want to
motivate a group of students to reach their dreams and goals in life, you can’t
just tell them they can without showing them some proof that it can be done.
How
to show them proof? One way is by telling them stories. You can always tell
them real stories about people who went through hard times but managed to
achieve their dreams. You can even share your own life experiences, your
struggles and your success. Another way is by using information and facts. You
can show them numbers, statistics or reports to support your ideas.
TIP 4 # USE POSITIVE APPROACH
In
my opinion, motivation should always be positive. Use positive approach to
motivate people. Use positive words to encourage others. Be kind and considerate.
Do not criticise, scold, condemn or force change. Do not use anger or use
aggressive approach to motivate your audience.
Your
positive attitudes and approach will create positive vibes between you and your
audience. Your audience will like you and will be comfortable listening to you. Before
you know it, your audience will be inspired and motivated by you.
TIP 5 # MAKE YOUR AUDIENCE FEEL GOOD
If
you feel good after listening to a speech, then it means the speaker did a
great job. Motivational speech is always about making you feel good. If you
want to motivate your audience effectively, make them feel good about
themselves. Use words of encouragement to motivate them. Let them see
themselves in a different perspective.
Encourage
them to believe in their abilities. Make them realise what they can do.
Persuade, support, influence and move them. Once they feel good, they will want
to take action. They will be motivated and stay motivated.
It is more than that…
Motivational
speech is such a powerful tool. If it is done properly and effectively, it will
not only change someone’s life but also the society, the country and even the
world. Motivation makes people strive for the best and encourage productivity
and efficiency in the workforce which lead to positive results in organisations,
businesses and overall economy.
It
takes a lot of courage to take action in realising your dreams. It takes
endless encouragement to do what you do. And it takes a little push for you
to step on the pedals to ride your bicycle.
Maybe
all you need is motivation…
