WHAT MAKES A SPEAKER UNIQUE?

Speakers. Public speakers. There are many public speakers around the world. Each of them has something to say. Each of them has messages to deliver. Some of them are well known to all of us. Meanwhile some of them remain anonymous and unrecognised.

Have you ever wondered why some speakers made great impact while others did not? Why people remember these individuals more than the others? What makes them different from the rest?

The question is what makes a speaker unique? Here; I have come out with 3 things that make a speaker one of a kind. Let me know what you think.

1) Brilliant Ideas and Burning Passion

Look around you. Read about the greatest speech ever made in history. What did these amazing speakers have in common? Yes. They all shared brilliant ideas and possessed incredible burning passion. All their speeches had a purpose.

They created or invented something remarkable. They discovered fresh new exciting theories that no one has ever thought possible. They presented beneficial ideas which can be solutions to others. They even changed our life. Who can forget Steve Jobs? The Co-founder of Apple impressed everyone with his presentation at MacWorld in 2007 when he introduced iPhone to the world for the first time.  

They strongly believed in what they were fighting for and wished to make a difference. Their voices were meant to bring great change to the world.Their passion on the subjects made us remember their speech forever. They spoke from the heart. They spoke with enthusiasm and excitement that we felt inspired and motivated. Martin Luther King’s speech in 1963, ‘I have a dream’ is one of the famous speeches ever known.

Therefore, a speaker is unique because of the brilliant ideas he or she is presenting and for the passionate nature which lies within.

2) Interesting personality

What makes someone unique? Unique people are different than others which make them very interesting. And being human, we are often attracted to someone with an interesting personality.

When I was a teenager, I hated it when someone told me that I was different. But as I grow older, I don’t mind to be different at all. In fact, I love to be different. Different makes you unique. Unique makes you interesting. And vice versa.

Hence, the next thing that makes these speakers unique is their interesting personality.

So, what makes someone interesting in the first place? For me, speakers with interesting personality are usually;

a) They are genuine. They are individuals who believe in just being themselves. In other words, they do not follow the crowd.

b) They lead an interesting life. They went through meaningful experience in life which is worth sharing; good or bad. They have real stories to tell which are worth listening to.

c) They are charismatic. They have strong character. Nothing can break these people.

d) They are smart and knowledgeable. They will not speak without any substance.

e) They think very differently from others. They do things differently too. They are creative people.

f) They are funny and witty. Sometimes you wonder how they can put a smile on your face.

g) They are approachable, sensitive and aware of other people’s feelings. They know how to connect with others.

h) They are always learning and keep wanting for more. They are always curious and great initiators.

One thing for sure, these speakers have exceptional uncommon personality!

3) Distinctive Style Of Delivery

Finally, the thing that distinguishes great speakers from average speakers is the style of delivery. 

The way they speak makes them unique. People will remember the way they speak, the way they sound and even the way they smile.

They usually know how to use their voice correctly. They know when to use their powerful voice, when to pause and when to whisper. The audience can feel the emotions just by listening to their intonations.

Their presentations are never boring because they always find ways to make it interesting. They are creative in delivering their speech. They ensure that their audience can get involve and connect with them easily. They are clear and precise about their message.

Their facial expressions, eye contact and hand gestures seem natural. They are talented storyteller who can make the audience glued to them. They are open with their feelings and transparent. They can be very convincing. They can tell your stories that you shall never forget. Thus, you will remember their speech for the rest of your life.

Finally, the Important Conclusions:

Do you want to be a unique speaker? Do you want to be remembered? Now that you know what makes a speaker unique, is it possible for you to be one?

The answer is yes.

Remember the things I mentioned that makes a speaker unique? Believe it or not, you have that within you. You just don’t know it yet.

First, find out your passion. When you are passionate about something, great ideas will come.

Keep on learning about everything and keep experiencing life. Be generous in sharing your stories, your views and your opinions with others. Keep improving on your public speaking skills, your presentations skills and not forgetting your people skills. By doing all these, you will definitely have an interesting personality!
