HOW TO BECOME A GREAT SPEAKER

Are you a speaker?

Or do you want to be one?

With some practice, anyone can be a speaker but not everyone can become a great speaker.

What does it mean by a great speaker?


A great speaker is a speaker who brings value to a speech. Someone who speaks with high standard of excellence. A speaker who is worth listening to because his or her speech has meaning and benefits others. A speaker who possesses certain characteristics or traits.

So how to become a great speaker?

1)Give Your Best in Every Speech

A great speaker will always deliver a good quality speech. And to be able to come up with a good quality speech, speakers must put some effort into their speech. If you want to become a great speaker, you must give your best in your speech.

Do not give a speech just for the sake of giving a speech. Take your time to write a good speech. Decide on your topics with some consideration and research your topics well. Please ensure that your points are relevant, based on the truth and beneficial for your audience. Make sure that your speech has valuable content with clear purpose, well-organised points and a take home message.

Visualize how you are going to deliver your speech. Practice delivering your speech. With enough practice, you will deliver a great speech. Deliver your speech with honesty and sincerity. Speak from your heart. Say it with enthusiasm. Say like you mean it.

Make certain that you have achieved your speech purpose and deliver the message successfully. Write and deliver your speech wholeheartedly. Trust me, your audience can see if you have worked very hard to give your best. And they will acknowledge you for it.

2)Love Continues Learning

Learning never stops. Even after you become a great speaker, you must keep on learning. There is always room for improvement.
There will always be new things to discover.
There will always be new things to learn.
There will always be new things to share.

As a speaker, you are not only giving a speech, but also to spread accurate information, ideas and knowledge to others. So, by being knowledgeable, you will achieve your objectives and proves your credibility. At least you should possess some knowledge of the topic that you are going to talk about. Never talk about a topic which you know nothing about.

Great speakers will always gain new experiences, enhance their knowledge and improve themselves from time to time. They will be better at what they do and become unique for the knowledge that they possessed.

3)Put Your Audience First

What is the difference between a speaker and a great speaker? Great speakers always put their audience first. Great speakers know that the speech is never about them. It is not about being popular or becoming well-recognized speakers. The truth, it is about conveying great message to the audience.

To become a great speaker, you must think about your audience first. What can you do for them? Find out what will interest them. Which topic will be beneficial for them? Which information will be useful to them? Which ideas will be valuable for them?

Communicate and interact with your audience. Get to know them. Listen to their questions and suggestions. Respect their opinions and have a discussion with them. You never know, you may learn a thing or two from your audience. And they will appreciate you for having an open mind.

4)Have The Right Attitude

Attitude is everything. Even if you have the knowledge but without the right attitude, you will not become a great speaker. To become a great speaker, you must have the right attitude.

Optimistic – a great speaker should be positive and encouraging. Positive speaker leads to positive vibes which is important in motivating the audience.
Willingness – a great speaker is always eager to learn, to share and to teach others.
Humble- a great speaker will always be down to earth; accepting the fact that there are things to learn from others.
Enthusiastic- a great speaker is always excited and appear energetic to share ideas, information and knowledge with others.
Hard working- a great speaker knows that nothing come easy and the need to put the heart and soul into every speech.

Sometimes we forget….

Public speaking is more than just speaking in public. It’s about so many other things like communicating, expressing, connecting, educating, inspiring, motivating, influence, persuading, sharing and even entertaining.

The truth is, a speaker does more than just speaking in front of people. Being able to speak well and writing a fantastic speech does not necessarily make you a great speaker. It also depends on your intention, your passion, your heart and your attitude. These will distinguish you from the rest and you shall be among the best.
