HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR FACIAL EXPRESSIONS

HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR FACIAL EXPRESSIONS

What is facial expression?

One way to define it, ‘The feelings shown or expressed on your face'.

For example,

A happy face

An angry face

A sad face

A confused face

A worried face

A surprised face

Do you know how important it is to use facial expression when you speak?

This is because facial expression helps you to show how you feel instead of just saying the words.

When your words combined with your facial expression, people can easily understand, relate, communicate and connect with you.

And when it comes to public speaking, no one can deny how facial expression can make it easier to convey the points in a speech or presentation.

Facial expressions are especially useful when you are telling a story in your speech. You will not be able to tell a good story without your facial expressions.

Your speech shall be more convincing and effective.

This should not be a problem to those who are naturally expressive.

However, some of us do not have many facial expressions when we talk. Most probably we are shy or perhaps not used to showing our feelings to others.

Whatever the reasons, please do not give up yet. Believe it or not, there is still hope to improve your facial expression.

Here are some ways you can try.

Firstly, understand this;

In order to get the right facial expression, your facial expression should display your feeling.

So, sync it with your emotion.

For instance; when you say something that makes you happy or talk about happy things, your face should be happy.

If you speak about something that worries you or something you are concern about, then you must look worried.

When you are talking about something sad, your facial expression should also be sad.

Secondly; once you understand this, the next thing you can do is to practice your facial expression.

Use a mirror. Look at yourself in the mirror and try out different facial expressions.

For example; think about happy things. Think about something that makes you smile. When you feel the happiness, look in the mirror. See your facial expression when you are happy.

Think about sad things, old memories or something which upset you. When you feel the sadness, look in the mirror and see how you look like.

Keep practicing using different emotions and observe your facial expressions. Practice and get it right. Do not be afraid to move your mouth, jaws, eyes and use your face muscles.

Finally; practice your facial expression in front of your friends, family or anyone who will give you their honest opinion and feedback.

Show them each facial expression that you have practiced and ask them to make a guess. This is for you to know if your facial expressions show exactly how you feel.

If they do not guess it correctly, try to do your facial expression in front of them again and decide which works for you.

With lots of practice, you will be able to improve your facial expression in no time!

All the best! :-)
